“Authenticity is the truthfulness of origins, commitments, sincerity, devotion and intentions“. Our knives are born, forged and handcrafted in the village of Laguiole, France.
Before I go any further, I need to let you know that Laguiole, pronounced (Lay-ol), is probably the most counterfeited cutlery in the world. It's important to know this because, like the oft-counterfeited ST Dupont, knock-offs and forgeries are readily available -- even from trusted web sites such as Amazon. If you want the real Forge de Laguiole, you'll want to only buy from an Authorized Forge de Laguiole Dealer.
Cigar Aficionado’s write-up about Laguiole Cigar Cutters will give you a little insight as to what makes these superb cutters an accessory that you need to add to your rotation HERE.
It is believed that French pocket knives making started at the beginning of the 13th Century in the village of Nontron. Today French cutlers are producing high quality replicas of the originals as well as modernized versions. The name “Laguiole” is free to use on cutlery items by anyone and such knives can be manufactured anywhere in the world. With that in mind, you probably understand why this style of cutlery is available in big box and online stores at ridiculously cheap prices. Remember the saying, “You get what you pay for”!
Poor quality Laguiole-style knives that are mass-produced in France or Asia and yes, believe it or not sometimes in both locations. They can technically be called French Made Laguiole knives because the standard for using MADE IN FRANCE requires that only 45% of the added value of the product must source from France. That means, if the knife comes in a wooden presentation box, and the box is 100% made in France, that adds into the required 45%. Many Laguiole knives sold by U.S. and French retailers alike are not even made in France at all.
We have done extensive research about the companies we’ve chosen to work with to bring our customers Laguiole products from French manufacturers that have shown high ethical values and fully honor warranty & repair services. All Laguiole knives, corkscrews, cigar cutters and pipe tools offered by Chesapeake are hand made and 100% manufactured in France.

LAGUIOLE CALUMET PIPE TOOLS
The Laguiole Calumet Pipe Tool is one of the finest pipe tools made. You can tell that Forge de Laguiole went to a few pipe smokers for ideas prior to designing these luxury pipe accessories.
They’ve blunted the main blade so you won’t damage your pipe bowl while scraping away the residue of your last smoke.
The poker tool is long enough to keep hot embers at a safe distance while fluffing up your tobacco bed.
One of the two hand forged bolsters is squared off, providing the perfect tamper as you settle in and enjoy your favorite pipe tobacco.
