For all the “Pete Geeks” out there, we’ve got an extra special treat in store for one lucky smoker. We have secured a SINGLE Peterson Premier System Revival 356 Sandblasted Oom Paul, which is part of the Charles Peterson (CP) small batch pipe series. The Premier System series features select-grade briar and all of the System engineering — Moisture Reservoir, Graduated Bore and P-Lip Mouthpiece (as well as an aluminum Chimney, which extends into the moisture reservoir, insuring that vortex smoke draw with every puff) — that established Peterson as a force in the pipe-making industry.
Anyone interested in getting this pipe into their collection must attend our System Day Event on September 3, 2026 — either in person or through our online feed. All interested parties will be given a ticket and a drawing will determine which lucky Pete Geek will proudly add this special pipe to their collection.
For those that are unfamiliar with the Peterson history, the 356 shape first appeared in the company’s 1937 catalog but the shape itself did not debut in 1937. Rather, Peterson introduced a grading system with the publishing of the 1937 catalog, where the same bowl shape received different shape numbers depending on the quality line. A 356 shape was a 3rd Grade. Deluxe System — 1st grade was the O2 shape, which premiered in the 1896 catalog. Premier System — 2nd grade was the 305 shape. And, Standard System — 3rd grade was the 356 shape.
Sometime during the 1940s the shape was subtly refined into the more familiar, slightly slimmer 356, although the chamber dimensions remained nearly unchanged. Glenn Whalen, currently Managing Director at Peterson in Ireland, recently reiterated on a Facebook discussion thread, that this soon to be released 356, as the name of the current pipe suggests, is a revival shape and is true to form to honor the traditional Oom Paul straight line bowl shaping, similar to the current bent Pub Pipe, only smaller in scale.
