Appearing in Peterson catalogs as early as 1906, the X160 is a historic Irish shape defined by its deep, swan-neck bend and softly rounded, Egg-like bowl. In this one-time revival as Peterson’s 2023 Pipe of the Year, the X160 benefits from the factory’s modern advancements in finishing and quality control, featuring a sterling silver military mount and vulcanite Patent Lip mouthpiece — the final patent of which, this year, celebrates its 125th anniversary.
When originally introduced, Peterson’s pipes were all sold with a smooth finish. Over the subsequent century, artisan craftsmen brought rustication, sandblasting and multiple dye shades to the manufacturing process, making a pipe that once came in one tint smooth finish into one available in a rainbow of colors and finishes.
For 2023, the Pipe Of The Year comes in ten variations (the unlabeled example is Terracotta finish.)
Production is limited to 1,100 total numbered units across all 10 finishes, although some finishes are much more limited in number than others. Available starting 6PM on August 8, 2023.
