Sun Bear Navy Cask is one of Cornell & Diehl’s most anticipated and coveted Small Batch releases — and for good reason. This year’s edition builds on the legacy of its predecessors with a refined blend of Red and Bright Virginias, artfully balanced by select 2020 Thai and 2018 Turkish Izmir leaf. At its heart lies raw wildflower honey, aged in rum barrels for over a year, then delicately enhanced with silver tequila and elderflower. The result is a naturally sweet, richly layered tobacco with barrel-aged notes of vanilla, charred oak, and toffee — a warm, boozy complexity that perfectly suits the slow, golden fade of summer.
Upon opening the tin, the broken flake is fairly moist — roughly 80% humidity. I recommend rubbing it out and giving it maybe 10 to 15 minutes before packing your pipe.
